Twang Rocks July…Back Saturday Night! April 17, 2010

We are officially in our off off season at Twang, but last night was a perfect example of how there really IS no off season. On a night when it was as hot as its been all year, plus a popular Tractor Pull in the next town, we STILL managed 200+ people! And, almost all stayed til the very end. THIS is what makes Twang Twang. Thanks gang!

This Saturday, we’re back with a regular Twang….hope to see you there!!

We’ll keep going straight through summer….but when fall arrives, we’ll turn the page and raise the bar yet again and begin our 17th season!! Thanks so much for everything…to the Twang pioneers and the current Twang gang!!

Make sure you check out the photos from last Saturday night(and previous events) by clicking on the pictures portion of this site.

“Twang21″ To Kick Off Next Friday at Hotel Carlisle! March 2, 2010

As you have been hearing over the past few weeks, we are so very excited to introduce “Twang21″ to the area beginning August 6th at the Hotel Carlisle (formerly the Embers) on the Harrisburg Pike Carlisle.

This doesn’t affect the current Twang, our home, at all. We’ll be Twangin’ every Saturday night in Newville forever…no fear. It’s simply an addition for the 21 and over crowd. Tractor Twang has always been for all ages, and the last 7-8 years, we’ve specialized in teens and young adults. “Twang21″ is pretty much the same Twang vibe, but slanted to the 21 and over crowd. Many current over 21ers come to Twang for a few hours, then bolt to some place more “adult.” We’ll take care of both of those needs now Every Friday Night starting August 6th!

This hotel was the site of the event that started line dancing off in this area in the 90’s. Big floor, great staff, huge room, and total fun!

For complete details, go to Twang21.com!! You’ll see and hear all sorts of things about Twang21 on local radio and in newspapers all this week. We’re pumped! We’ll see you Friday Nights In August!

Twang Says Goodbye To Two Great Staffers

If you missed our St. Patty’s Day dance back on March 17th, you missed the final night for two great Twang employees. Jon Shughart, who has worked at Twang in some capacity for almost all 16 seasons (and became our head of security), and Jill Varady, who came to Twang on a whim three years ago…only to become one of our hardest workers ever, stepped aside from their posts on the 17th.

Words can’t explain how much Jon has done in his many years. Other than myself and his parents, no one has seen the Twang like Jonathan. He’s seen the very beginnings, and the early struggles, and was a major part of getting Twang on the map…and then establishing it as the country dance club everyone copied. He oversaw a security staff that adopted a “no tolerance” policy when it came to rule breaking, and made it one of the safest places around. We wish Jon well in all he does, and I’m sure we’ll still see him around at times.

Jill helped oversee our admissions table for the past three years and was responsible for not only greeting you at the door, but countless other things. From decorations to painting to “on the road” events and even teaching here and there, Jill did it all. She, like Jon, will be missed. But, I’m sure we’ll still see her from time to time as well.

Both will eventually take their place as Twang “royalty”, and I am sure when our Hall of Fame is established, they’ll be on the first ballot!

We’re #1 After All These Years…For Real December 1, 2008

The term “#1″ is interesting…because anyone can SAY that they are number one. Anyone can spin numbers, or invent stats out of thin air to SAY they are #1. It’s quite funny sometimes because so many people proclaim themselves #1. For example, my radio station (107.7 WGTY-FM) is in the York Radio market. The arbitron ratings come out four times a year, and since 2005, we’ve been the #1 station overall in our market (35 total stations in that market). That means that of EVERY PERSON surveyed, more people picked our station than any other. Some stations will break it down to men or women or smaller demo’s and THEN claim they are #1, but we’re #1 overall….all that matters.

As it pertains to Twang, over our 16 seasons, we’ve stayed number 1. At first, we were pretty much the only show around. Then, as more places came and went, #1 meant something. But, like album sales, or radio airplay charts, or movie ticket sales, or television ratings, the only true #1 is NUMBER OF PEOPLE TOTAL that attend. And, when it comes to that, the only REAL #1 is us. If we truly weren’t #1, we wouldn’t say it. It would be a lie. The moral of the story is that YOU continue to make us #1, and we love you for it! Actually the real moral of the story is that you probably could care less who #1 is…you just enjoy having a good time. It was just time we cleared up some of that nonsense…lol. When you’re #1, sometimes you are a target…so we just wanted to set the record straight!

As indicated previously on this site, it is hard to believe we’ve been doing this since 1994. We started from the ground up, and anyone else that has come along has been either a partial or total copy of us. And, as we’ve said before, we are proud of that. Proud of the fact that we had such an influence on entertainment in the area…and it’s all because of YOU. Whether you’ve been with us for years or months, you have played a part in this…and we’ll never be able to repay you.

Twang Packs ‘Em In…Back Saturday For More! September 27, 2008

Twang packed ‘em in last Saturday night after many of us spent the previous two days eating Turkey and shopping.  Much like the crowds jump after Halloween, they jump another notch after Turkey day as evidenced by the crowd last night.  Thanks for an awesome night!!

Back on Wednesday night, we collected almost 200 cans at the door for Project S.H.A.R.E in Carlisle.  We do this every year to help feed needy families over the holidays.  This Wednesday night Twang has become a tradition over the years and as long as we continue to have crowds like last Wednesday, we’ll keep having it every year!!

We return this Saturday with a regular Twang.  7:15 lesson, 8 dance!

For photos from last night and this past Wednesday, just click on the pictures section of this site.   For an interview, and video footage of last Saturday’s Twang, click on the video two stories down!

Happy Thanksgiving!

In addition to thank you’s for Wednesday night’s event, we also want to thank you for all the support you give us over the year.  We can’t thank you enough for keeping us on top since 1994.  Twang has grown in leaps and bounds since then, and we always will realize that without YOU, there would be no us….so Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Twang!!

Season 15 Underway…Back This Saturday!!! September 16, 2008

We turned the page on one season, and kicked another one off last Saturday night at Twang!  Although we don’t ever stop Twang (it’s year-round), this kick off seemed a little more “real” because of so many new things obvious changes….one being the renovated/repainted dance floor.  Thanks for a great season 15 kick off!!

We are back Saturday night with another Twang!  7:15 lesson, 8-11:15 dance.  BE THERE!!!

Last week, 10 people competed in our grand prize “name that tune” contest, and of those 10, four walked away with an ipod, and 2 with a new TV!  Dozens more won cd’s, passes, and shirts.  Some of you were asking about the shirts we gave away at the door to the first 300 people.  We WILL be getting some more of those in in a few weeks.  We knew we’d run out obviously, but we didn’t realize so many people who didn’t get them would be asking for them.  Stay tuned!!!

As we always say, the great news about week 1 is that it is only the beginning!  As we get closer to winter, the crowds continue to grow, and eventually we’re back where we are every winter….wall to wall people!

Thanks again for coming out by the hundreds to ensure that season 15 will be one for the ages!!

For photos from week 1 of season 15, just click on the pictures section of this site!  The new Scott-TV is two stories down!

Thanks To A GREAT Summer “On The Road!” July 4, 2008

We had our share of “special” Twangs this summer (Fountain Fest, Summerfair, Newville Fair, Ag Expo, Franklin Cty Fair, Corn-fest & more), and we can’t thank you enough for all the support you showed us.  Summer is our slowest season, but it’s also the one season where we pack it up and hit the road as well!  Helping us spread the word of Twang all summer long only makes the fall and winter that much more fun.  Thanks again for all the concrete, dirt, and blacktop dancing this summer.  You are the best!

Fox 43-TV Features Twang! May 26, 2008

We want to thank Kiersten & Lynette from Fox-43 for visiting the Twang last Wednesday and learning a few dance steps! It was all part of their “In Your Backyard” series and we were thrilled they decided to feature us! It aired on the Fox morning show just before 7am Thursday morning, but is available on their website (Fox43.com) if you missed it. We can’t thank them enough for the press! Check out photos from the shoot by clicking on the pictures section of this site.

Twang Heads To Carlisle Fairgrounds Tonight! (Fireworks & Dancing!) May 25, 2008

With the summer season just about here, we switch gears a good bit with all sorts of “on the road” Twangs. Pay close attention to the schedule for all the happenings.

We next take our Twang show on the road to the Carlisle Fairgrounds for their annual Fireworks extravaganza TONIGHT(July 5th). We dance from 7-9:30 on the big stage in front of hundreds, watch the fireworks at 9:30, and then dance AFTER the fireworks too! It’s part of the Carlisle Summerfair celebration and you can’t miss it!!

IF the fireworks are canceled, we will revert back to Twang and have a regular night there….UNLESS it is canceled too close to the time of the event.  In that case, we would cancel as well due to having no time to get back to Twang for setup.
